RRB NTPC has two computer-based tests for both Graduate and Undergraduate posts: CBT 1 to shortlist, and CBT 2 to decide merit. Marking scheme (CBT 1 and CBT 2)अंक योजना (CBT 1 और CBT 2)
- +1 mark for each correct answer.
- −1/3 mark for each wrong answer.
- No marks deducted for questions you leave.
- When the exam runs in many shifts, marks are normalised so that easy and hard shifts are compared fairly.
- The exam is available in English, Hindi and several regional languages. There is no separate English section.
- Candidates eligible for a scribe get extra time (120 minutes in recent notices).
In recent notices the minimum marks to be considered were 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC (non-creamy layer) and SC, and 25% for ST. Crossing the minimum does not guarantee selection; the cut-off is usually much higher.

What this meansA blind guess gains nothing on average in NTPC, so skip questions you know nothing about. If you can rule out even one option, guessing becomes worth it.

CBT 1 gives you 90 minutes for 100 questions — about 54 seconds each. CBT 2 gives 90 minutes for 120 questions — about 45 seconds each. Typing test and CBATटाइपिंग टेस्ट और CBAT
Typing Skill Test (CBTST): for the four typist posts in 2026 — Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist. You need 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a computer. It is qualifying only, but you cannot get these posts without clearing it — so start typing practice early.
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): for Station Master and Traffic Assistant posts. You need a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery, with no relaxation, and final merit is 70% CBT 2 plus 30% CBAT. The 2026 indicative notice does not list these posts yet; check the detailed CEN.
टाइपिंग स्किल टेस्ट (CBTST): 2026 के चार टाइपिस्ट पदों के लिए — जूनियर अकाउंट्स असिस्टेंट कम टाइपिस्ट, सीनियर क्लर्क कम टाइपिस्ट, अकाउंट्स क्लर्क कम टाइपिस्ट और जूनियर क्लर्क कम टाइपिस्ट। कंप्यूटर पर अंग्रेज़ी में 30 शब्द प्रति मिनट या हिंदी में 25 शब्द प्रति मिनट की गति चाहिए। यह केवल क्वालिफ़ाइंग है, पर इसे पास किए बिना ये पद नहीं मिलते — इसलिए टाइपिंग का अभ्यास अभी से शुरू करें।
