Narration rulesकथन के नियम
When the reporting verb is in the past (said, asked), move the tense one step back.जब रिपोर्टिंग क्रिया भूतकाल में हो (said, asked), तो काल को एक कदम पीछे ले जाएँ।
- Tense: am/is → was, are → were, has/have → had, did/V2 → had + V3, will → would, can → could, may → might. Universal truths do not change.
- Words: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next day, yesterday → the previous day, last week → the previous week, here → there, this → that.
- Questions: asked + if/whether (yes-no) or the wh-word, then statement order (no 'do/did'). Commands: ordered/told + object + to + V1; negative: not to. Requests: requested + object + to + V1.
- Exclamations: exclaimed with joy/sorrow that …; 'What a …!' becomes 'that it was a very …'. 'said to me' becomes 'told me'.
